June 2008

yikes! the nerves are kicking in now…still loads to do, mainly with the liteace(!).

We’ve just found out that Stena Line have given us a free ferry ticket for next Friday’s crossing from Rosslare to Fishguard!!!! Fair play to all concerned :-)

Liteace preparations coming together nicely, am waiting on new suspension and other nice new bits to arrive to allow final work to be carried out…still a couple of late nights in store though…

Kazakhstan visa arrived today with one and a bit weeks to departure. Chinese visa is next. We’re visiting there after we [toes and fingies crossed] get to Mongolia. Can’t believe we’re leaving next week…what the feck are we doing!!!!!!!!!!

And waiting for our Kazakhstan visas to come in the post…Should arrive this week, if not…well havent thought of that yet as we’re leaving Ireland next Friday the 4th to begin our trip and need to have them before we leave. Eek.

Larry is finished work but I’m slaving on till this Friday to get the most of my wages as I wont be working for another while. He is busy sorting out stuff for the van while I’m busy worrying about where our visas are!

Uzbekistan visa getting was a success in London but very expensive at £65 each! Scary man at consulate. Now in Stansted waiting for my flight home…only another 2 and a half hour wait…its very bad when i pay a pound for 10 minutes internet access.

On the upside I purchased mosquito repellent on sale and 3 maps – Europe, Central Asia and Mongolia. All that’s missing is a map to cover the Russian bit!

On another upside I got a rather nice skirt too.

Went to the Iranian embassy in Dublin and we got our visas no problem at all. They are very nice there. We like Iran.

There was a lot of talk by the English contingent of the rally that a visa code was needed but luckily it was a straight forward process with the embassy in Dublin.

Off to London tomorrow on a cheap early bird, late return bird flight with Ryanair – E8.02! Hoping to sort out the visa for Uzbekistan there and go to Stanfords a massive map shop in Covent Garden to sort out some maps for the trip.

Got the Turkmenistan visas in the post today! Delighted! Everyone was saying it would be the hardest one to get. It was tricky with fiddley bits and odd things but think the other ’stans’ will be just as troublesome. Will put up pictures of the visas we have so far for visa nerds in a whileen. Not over yet, next step Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, China, Australia!
