We the team are taking part in The Mongolia Rally to raise money and our spirits.

While it is called a ‘rally’, in reality its more like a ‘Sunday drive’ – but a long extended Sunday drive of 10,000 miles. You still get to have picnics, see cool stuff and fight but it will take 6 weeks.

Here’s a rough idea of whats in store…

We set off from Tipperary/Waterford on July 4th to reach the port of Rosslare where we will wave goodbye to Ireland and begin our journey east across the Irish sea onboard the Stena ferry (just like we used to do years ago for our summer hols!) .

Then its onwards to London for the big launch on the 5th July. There we’ll meet loads of teams from all over the world who are taking part in the rally, compare vehicles, sponsors and camping equipment…I also expect there shall be lots of smoozing with various celebrities and dignatories, maybe even a bit of Mongolian wrestling…

From there we’ll drive under water and arrive up on the banks of France and take off across the EU plains to reach the edge of Europe. Then we enter non-EU-man land where everyone will be jealous of our Golden Liteace which can travel under water, overland and to the shops.

We will travel through Turkey, into Iran, upwards skirting along the Caspian Sea entering Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, up into Russia and then back down entering Western Mongolia. Hopefully in time for a full solar eclipse! And across to the final destination for most of the people involved in the rally – the capital, Ulaanbaatar. I hope we make it! Festivities have been promised on arrival.

There we will say either a sad or happy goodbye [depending on its performance] to the Golden Liteace at an auction where all proceeds of the sale will go to charities benefiting Mongolian people.

We’re also raising money for our own chosen Irish charity and the charities in Mongolia. To see more about this go to our charity page. If you can help in any way with equipment, concessions etc, please get in touch! Additionally, we’re ’selling’ advertising space on the van at a very reasonable rate :-)  EVERY cent will go to our chosen charities – take a look here;  www.irelandtomongolia.com/charities
